It has been announced that Tempo will become the new distributor for Pernod Ricard in Israel from 2011. Pernod Ricard, based in France, is the second largest spirits company in the world. Their brands include Absolut, Ballantines, Beefeater, Chivas Regal, Jameson, Martell and The Glenlivet. They are also the fourth largest wine company in the world owning brands such as Campo Viejo, Jacobs Creek, Montana, Mumm and Perrier Jouet.
Tempo Beer Industries is Israel’s largest brewery and second largest beverage company. Situated in Netanya, their brands include Goldstar, Heineken, and Pepsi Cola. They also own Israel’s second largest winery, Barkan, who in turn own the Segal brand.
The new additions to their portfolio will challenge Israel’s largest beverage concern, The Central Bottling Company (CBC), based in Bnei Brak. Their brands include Carlsberg, Guinness, Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff and Coca Cola. They also own Tabor Winery which according to the 2009 harvest was Israel’s ninth largest winery.
These two large beverage concerns will face each other with the world’s major drinks brands competing against each other. Heineken and Carlsberg, Absolut and Smirnoff, Chivas Regal and Johnnie Walker, Pepsi Cola and Coca Cola are rival brands the world over. They will now be going head to head in Israel too. Israeli wineries will also play their part. Tempo’s Barkan – Segal and CBC’s Tabor Winery will be flying the flag for the local wine industry. It is good to know amongst these mega, global brands, that Israeli wine is not forgotten.
