>> Yarden Rom 2006

A new wine has been launched by the Golan Heights Winery. It is called Yarden Rom 2006 and is made from 37% Syrah, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon and 29% Merlot. The wine was aged in oak barrels for 21 months. It is 15% alcohol and was unfiltered. Only 6,000 bottles were produced and the shelf price will be 340 shekels. It was released on the first day of Yarden Vintage 2010, the Golan Heights Winery's Wine & Culinary Festival.

The wine is a joint venture between Victor Schoenfeld, chief winemaker of the Golan Heights Winery since 1992, and Zelma Long, their winemaking consultant since 2002.

Zelma Long is a giant of Californian winemaking. She was famous in the 1970's as winemaker of the Robert Mondavi Winery. Then she became winemaker and later CEO of Simi Winery. She now owns wineries in South Africa and California, and consults in places like California, France and Israel.
