Yarden, Cabernet Sauvignon, 2006 (K)

On most mornings I enjoy a light breakfast, most often of a croissant or two and coffee. This morning, however, for reasons unknown I woke at 5 a.m. with a raging appetite so, without disturbing a soul it was into the kitchen and on to fresh orange juice, three slices of French toast, those first generously buttered and then spread with a bit of raspberry jam, eight slices of bacon (crisp) and then of course, several cups of coffee. Well before 9 a.m. when my assistant arrived, I had brushed my teeth (no toothpaste before tastings) and was more than ready to go on to a tasting of 18 varietal Cabernet Sauvignon wines.
Among the wines tasted the 2006 Yarden Cabernet Sauvignon. Because people have been asking, my note, literally "hot from the tasting room" follows.

Golan Heights Winery, Yarden, Cabernet Sauvignon, 2006: Showing even better than at an earlier tasting. Full-bodied, with soft, gently mouth-coating tannins and sweet and spicy cedar wood integrating nicely. On the nose and palate ripe black and red berries and currants on a background of Oriental spices and Mediterranean herbs, all touched vanilla and light earthy overtones. Another victory for the Golan Heights Winery. Drink now–2018. Score 92. K |
