Largely because of our forum postings, a bottle of the 2007 Yarden Cabernet Sauvignon was hand-delivered to me today for tasting. Because the wine is making its way to market as I wrote this note, on its arrival (a positive surprise to me), I immediately had my assistant set up a blind mini-tasting of various Cabernet Sauvignon wines, those of the Yarden wines and three others wines from each of the vintages from 2004 to 2007.
As a possible point of interest, I have now tasted the 2007 Yarden Cabernet Sauvignon four times in all, first as a component in a barrel tasting, then as a final blend in the barrels, after that as an advance tasting and again late this afternoon.

Yarden, Cabernet Sauvignon, 2007: Showing even better than at barrel and advance tastings. Medium- to full-bodied (leaning to the full), with soft tannins and sweet-and-spicy wood integrating nicely. An aromatic black fruit and chocolate nose and goes on to show a fine array of blackberry, blackcurrant, wild berry and roasted herbs, all leading to a long and generous finish. Approachable and enjoyable now but best 2012-2025. Score 92. K
Yarden, Cabernet Sauvignon, 2006: Full-bodied, with gently mouth-coating tannins, sweet cedarwood and notes of tobacco integrating nicely. On the nose and palate wild berries, purple plums and currants on a background of spicy oak, all touched with hints of spices, coffee and light mineral-earthy overtones. On the long finish a hint of red cherries that brings a comfortable smile to the eyes. Drink now–2018. Score 92. K
Yarden, Cabernet Sauvignon, 2005: Brooding, almost impenetrably dark ruby red, full-bodied, with near-sweet tannins and spicy oak wrapped around blackcurrants, berries, spices and a hint of dark chocolate. Look as well for enchanting hints of citrus peel on the long finish. Fine balance and structure bode well for the future. Drink now–2018. Score 92. K
Yarden, Cabernet Sauvignon, 2004: Dark, almost impenetrable garnet, with generous wood in fine balance with acidity and fruits. Opens to show currants and crushed berries, those yielding to cranberries, ripe purple plums and dark chocolate, all on a background of spices, asphalt and earthiness. Drink now–2016. Score 92. K |
