Golan Heights Winery Releases Two Organic Single Vineyard Wines
2006 Yarden Merlot Odem Organic Vineyard makes debut, while 2008 Yarden Chardonnay Odem Organic Vineyard continues tradition
Golan Heights Winery, the leading premium winery in Israel, release two new organic single vineyard wines: 2006 Yarden Merlot Odem Organic Vineyard and 2008 Yarden Chardonnay Odem Organic Vineyard.
The two new wines continue the successful yearly release of single vineyard Chardonnay wines grown in the organic Odem Vineyard. The 2002 Yarden Chardonnay Odem Organic Vineyard was Golan Heights Winery's first organic wine ever produced, as well as its first single vineyard wine to come to market. The 2006 Yarden Merlot Odem Organic Vineyard marks the debut of this organic single vineyard wine.
With the development of organic agriculture throughout the world and the growth in environmental awareness, already in 1998 Golan Heights Winery converted the Odem Vineyard to organic growing methods. Today, the Winery also grows organic grapes in the Yonatan and Nov vineyards.
"Organic winegrowing not only expresses, to the fullest extent possible, the unique terroir of the Odem Vineyard, but also positively influences its quality," said Victor Schoenfeld, Head Winemaker of Golan Heights Winery. "In light of our successful experience with organic winegrowing in the Odem Vineyard, which was the Winery's first organic vineyard, and following extensive study of the topic, we implemented organic methodologies in additional vineyards on the Golan Heights. In an organic vineyard such as Odem, the vine and the wine express the vineyard's distinctive soil, topography and climate in a particularly powerful and exceptional way."
The two new wines join a long and growing list of single vineyard wines released by Golan Heights Winery including Yarden Cabernet Sauvignon El Rom Vineyard, Yarden Merlot Ortal Vineyard, Yarden Syrah Ortal Vineyard, Yarden Merlot Kela Vineyard, and Yarden Merlot Tel Phares Vineyard.
"As Israel's leading premium winery, we at Golan Heights Winery are dedicated to creating unique wines reflecting the soil and the people, our terroir and our growers, that are characteristic of the Golan. At the same time, we are committed to the value of innovation as well as the highest international production standards," said Anat Levi, CEO of Golan Heights Winery. "We are proud, each time anew, to add an additional layer to the development of wine culture in Israel. Our new organic single vineyard wines produced from Odem Vineyard achieve rare quality, while faithfully reflecting the essence of the Winery's philosophy and vision: to respect and love people, the soil and the environment in which we act and create."
